Just a few weeks ago, the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance approved a law to punish Internet Service Providers when Italian citizens access offshore gambling sites. Several UK online gambling operations reacted shocked to these measurements and are now pressuring the European Commission to make the Italian government turn back their decision of blocking access to offshore gambling sites.

The RGA (Remote Gambling Association), existing of several online gambling companies is requested legal advice in the case and hope that they can somehow make the Italian government, chance back their law. A representative of the RGA stated that the organization was very shook up by the whole situation and extremely surprise about how fast the Italian government implemented their new law.

The new Italian Finance Act 2006, implemented on January 1, says that Italian service providers can be fined up to $120,000, if they will allow any Italian to gamble at an offshore ‘blacklisted’ gambling company. To show that they really are serious, the Italian government passed a number of decrees earlier this month in Rome, which stated that from February 24, the service providers have to block entrance to approximately 500 offshore gambling sites.
